Hereford United Football Club

Hereford football has had a turbulent few years, but, against all the odds, it’s still here and soccer continues to be played at the Edgar Street ground. The threat of football no longer being played in the city was felt keenly in Herefordshire. But far from an ignoble end, the club has risen like a phoenix from the ashes. For a small club, The Bulls have punched above its weight over the years.

Formed in 1924, Hereford United has played football at Edgar Street for the past 90 years. The Bulls have reached the FA Cup eight times in their history. Perhaps its most famous moment was the famous 1972 FA Cup third-round giant-killing of Newcastle United and Ronnie Radford’s 30-yard goal smasher. Today, over 40 years later, pundits still list that goal among the all-time greats.

Derek’s photographic logs are full of Hereford FC references and he was a keen supporter as well as photographer of their many games over the years. His distinctive figure, wearing a mac with camera around his neck, would have been a familiar figure.
