The creation of a huge online archive

This website brings you a taster of the photographs from the archive along with project news, films and interviews. We are working closely with Herefordshire Council’s Libraries and Archive Services to digitise hundreds of the images from the collection to be made available on Herefordshire History which will be the online archive for the photographs. They will be added in batches as the project progresses and as fast as our willing volunteers can do them. Check out the site to see what’s new and get the chance to examine the photos in greater detail.

Herefordshire History is a project run by Herefordshire libraries to digitise unique local material from Herefordshire’s libraries, archives and museum collections with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Items will be brought together for the first time in a searchable online database which will make this material available to everyone and preserve it for future generations. Why not visit the Herefordshire Archive and Records Centre (HARC) to do some of your own local or family history research, they hold a wide range of sources, including parish registers, wills, school records and electoral rolls.

In addition to the numerous local indexes to births, marriages and deaths compiled by the Herefordshire Family History Society, you will also find free access to the Ancestry and Find My Past websites in the searchroom. They also run regular courses on a wide range of themes. See the current list here.
