At Catcher Media we have been playing with the world of podcasting and learning so much about the format which uses audio recording. In our second episode we thought it would be nice to share some ideas with people about how they could approach recording oral histories with family or friends, using low-tech equipment. We decided to focus on how to engage people and prompts to get people talking rather than getting too ‘techie’ and talking about equipment in detail. We talk about using audio as a starting point as we are keen for people to give it a go and not be too overwhelmed by the technology.

Having spent many years recording other people stories for our projects I decided a couple of years ago to record stories with my own mum and dad and it feels really nice to know I have those to keep and to share. The picture above is of my dad shwoing a photo of him in his baby dress, it was pink and he has kept it. With the Christmas holidays coming up and with this strange coronavirus year we have had it could be a good time to reflect, listen to and record some memories of you own family or friends, either face-to-face or online.
